VON DG Joins Leaders to Celebrate Navy’s 70th Anniversary

The Director-General of Voice of Nigeria (VON), Mallam Jibrin Baba Ndace, has joined senior government officials, military leaders and other stakeholders at the Nigerian Navy’s 70th Anniversary Celebration and International Fleet Review held at the Eko Atlantic City Waterfront in Lagos.

The event marked seven decades of the Navy’s service to the nation and showcased its maritime capabilities and role in regional and global security.

Speaking during the celebration, Mallam Ndace congratulated the Nigerian Navy on its 70 years of service, commending its commitment to protecting Nigeria’s territorial integrity and maritime interests.

He also toured exhibition stands at the venue, where he interacted with officers, stakeholders and industry experts. The VON Director-General lauded the innovations, operational capabilities and achievements displayed by the service.

The celebration highlighted the Nigerian Navy’s contributions to maritime security and national development over the past seven decades.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who attended the event, commissioned newly acquired naval assets and inaugurated the Combined Maritime Task Force.

He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening maritime security and supporting the armed forces through sustained investments.

The President said the government would continue to prioritise the protection of Nigeria’s territorial waters and national security.

The Chief of the Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, also received commendation for efforts to strengthen the Navy’s operational capacity and enhance its response to maritime crimes, including piracy and crude oil theft.

The anniversary celebration brought together serving and retired military personnel, government officials and other stakeholders to reflect on the Nigerian Navy’s achievements and future aspirations.
