Military Pension Board Warns Pensioners Against Fraudsters

By Martha Obi, Abuja

The Military Pensions Board (MPB) has alerted military pensioners, retirees, and Next-of-Kin to the activities of fraudsters who are targeting pensioners and soliciting sensitive personal information under the guise of facilitating loans, processing benefits, and providing financial services.

In a statement, the Public Relations Officer of the Board, Squadron Leader Aliyu Muhammed, disclosed that the suspected fraudsters often approach pensioners with promises of securing loans, expediting benefits, or providing other financial assistance.

According to him, the individuals have been demanding sensitive information, including Bank Verification Numbers (BVN), National Identification Numbers (NIN), bank account details, ATM card information, and other personal data.

Squadron Leader Muhammed cautioned pensioners and their Next-of-Kin against disclosing such information to any individual, group, or platform that is not officially authorized by the Military Pensions Board.

He emphasized that the Board does not engage third parties to collect pensioners’ personal or banking information for the processing of loans, pension payments, gratuities, or any other benefits.

The Board noted that any request for personal information from unofficial sources should be treated with suspicion and promptly reported to the appropriate authorities for necessary action.

Military pensioners and Next-of-Kin were further advised to conduct all pension-related transactions only through recognized Military Pensions Board channels and designated contact lines.

The Military Pensions Board reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the interests of military retirees and stated that it will continue to collaborate with relevant agencies to safeguard pensioners from fraud and other criminal activities.
