Muhammad-Bande to Chair UDUS Media Conference on AI

A former President of the United Nations General Assembly, Professor Tijjani Muhammad-Bande, will chair the maiden International Conference of the Department of Mass Communication, Usmanu Danfodiyo University Sokoto (UDUS).

The conference focuses on the role of media in national development in the era of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The conference will begin with a pre-conference lecture on June 7, to be delivered by Professor Fatma El-Sayed of Cairo University, Egypt.

Professor Muhammad-Bande, a former Vice-Chancellor of UDUS, is expected to preside over the opening ceremony scheduled for June 8 at the University Auditorium.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University, who is the Chief Host, expressed the institution’s readiness to welcome participants from within and outside Nigeria for the academic gathering.

According to the Organising Committee, “the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council, Professor Attahiru Jega, alongside members of the council, will attend the opening ceremony.”

A major highlight of the conference will be the keynote address by Professor Kehbuma Langmia of Howard University, Washington D.C., United States, a double Fulbright Scholar.

The conference, themed “Media and National Development in the Era of Artificial Intelligence,” is expected to stimulate robust intellectual discussions among scholars, media professionals, policymakers and other stakeholders on the opportunities and challenges presented by AI in the media landscape.

Chairman of the Organising Committee, Dr. Danladi Bako, said “the conference promises to provide a rewarding experience for participants and contribute meaningfully to contemporary discourse on media and technological advancement.”

Participants from universities across Nigeria and beyond are expected to present papers and contribute to panel discussions during the four-day event.

The conference will also feature the unveiling of the maiden edition of the ALKALAMI Journal of Communication and Media Studies by the Department of Mass Communication.
