The Anambra State Government has unveiled plans to accelerate its emergence as a leading technology and innovation hub in Africa through the expansion of the Solution Innovation District (SID), a flagship initiative aimed at driving digital transformation, entrepreneurship and job creation.
Speaking to technology experts and key stakeholders in the innovation ecosystem in Awka, the state capital, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Innovation and Business Incubation and Chief Executive Officer of SID, Chinwe Okoli, said the programme remains a critical component of Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo’s second-term development agenda.
Okoli said the next phase of the initiative will focus on expanding digital infrastructure, strengthening support for startups, activating the district’s innovation ecosystem and creating more technology-driven employment opportunities across the state.
She noted that SID has already established a strong foundation for digital transformation and talent development, with efforts now directed at scaling its impact and positioning Anambra as a competitive player in the global digital economy.

According to her, several Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) firms are preparing to establish operations in the state, attracted by the growing pool of digitally skilled youths trained through Anambra’s innovation programmes.
The companies are expected to recruit young professionals for global service delivery, digital operations and other technology-enabled roles, creating sustainable employment opportunities for thousands of residents.
Okoli said the expansion of SID would stimulate economic growth, attract investment, promote innovation and enhance Anambra’s competitiveness as a destination for technology businesses and digital enterprises.
She added that preparations are underway to fully activate the new SID facility as a hub for technology companies, startups and BPO operators, while strengthening job-matching systems that connect trained youths with international employment opportunities.

Expressing confidence in the initiative’s long-term impact, Okoli said digital skills development, strategic private-sector partnerships and targeted job-placement support would play a significant role in reducing unemployment, empowering young people and accelerating Anambra’s emergence as one of Africa’s leading centres for technology and innovation.
