The Ogun State chapter of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has named Kudirat Adegunwa-Balogun as its deputy governorship candidate for the 2027 election, strengthening the party’s preparations ahead of the poll.
Her nomination was announced during an APC caucus meeting in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, where party leaders and stakeholders from the state’s three senatorial districts gathered to ratify the decision.
Governor Dapo Abiodun said the choice followed extensive consultations with party leaders and stakeholders across Ogun State and reflected considerations of equity and fairness in allocating the deputy governorship slot.
The 51-year-old Chartered Accountant will run alongside the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, in the 2027 gubernatorial race.
Gov. Abiodun commended party members for maintaining unity during the recently concluded primaries, describing the consensus-based process as unprecedented in Ogun’s political history.

He said the peaceful conduct of the governorship primary helped ensure stability in other party contests.
“What we achieved reflects the true Ogun spirit. We have demonstrated that peaceful succession and consensus-building are possible in our politics,” the governor said.
The Governorship candidate, Sen. Adeola described Adegunwa-Balogun as a disciplined and experienced professional, expressing confidence in her ability to complement his administration if elected.

He said her emergence followed broad consultations with critical stakeholders across the state.
In her acceptance speech, Adegunwa-Balogun described the nomination as a call to service and pledged to promote inclusive governance, particularly for women, youths and the grassroot community.
“This nomination is not about me. It is about our shared responsibility to shape the future of Ogun State,” she said.
Adegunwa-Balogun, daughter of prominent businessman and philanthropist Alhaji Sulaiman Adegunwa, the Asiwaju of Ijebuland, currently serves as Chief Financial Officer and Executive Director, Finance and Administration, at Rite Foods Limited.
Her selection through a voice vote by party delegates signals the APC’s early efforts to consolidate internal unity as political activities gradually build towards Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
