NOA, NCFRMI Call for Inclusion, Protection of IDPs in Kebbi

By Binta Aliyu Kebbi State

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI) have called on the media and members of the public to promote inclusion, dignity, and protection for refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Kebbi State.

Speaking during a media parley to commemorate World Refugee Day 2026, the Director of NOA, Kebbi State, Alhaji Nasir Karofi, emphasised that the global theme, “Until Everyone Is Safe”, highlights the fundamental right of every individual to safety and dignity.

Karofi noted that while humanitarian assistance such as food, shelter, and healthcare is essential, long-term protection depends on public acceptance, social integration, and community support.

He explained that the NOA’s role is to foster understanding, empathy, and peaceful coexistence between host communities and displaced persons.

He urged journalists and media practitioners to report refugee and displacement issues responsibly by focusing on human dignity rather than sensationalism.

According to him, displaced persons are not merely statistics but individuals whose lives have been disrupted by conflict, insecurity, and other crises.

The NOA Director also acknowledged the support of the Kebbi State Government, particularly the efforts of the wife of the governor, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, for her humanitarian interventions aimed at supporting vulnerable women, children, and displaced families across the state.

Similarly, the North-West Zonal Director of the NCFRMI, Alhaji Ar’Mayau Shu’aibu, described World Refugee Day as an opportunity to recognise the resilience and courage of millions of displaced people around the world.

He stated that Kebbi State occupies a strategic position due to its international borders and plays a vital role in managing migration, supporting displaced populations, and responding to humanitarian challenges. He stressed that physical security alone is insufficient without social acceptance and integration.

Shu’aibu highlighted the importance of collaboration between the NCFRMI and the NOA, noting that while the commission provides humanitarian assistance and durable solutions, the NOA helps shape public attitudes and promote social cohesion.

He called on media organisations to combat misinformation, stigma, and discrimination against displaced persons by telling stories that reflect both their challenges and their contributions to society.

The NCFRMI official also commended Governor Dr Nasir Idris, the wife of the governor, and the Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment and Orientation, Hon. Ibrahim Abubakar Jombale, for their continued support of humanitarian and public enlightenment initiatives in the state.

The event concluded with a collective appeal for stronger community support, responsible media engagement, and sustained efforts to protect the rights and dignity of refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons.

Participants were reminded that lasting peace and security can only be achieved when the most vulnerable members of society are protected and given opportunities to rebuild their lives.
