The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates participating in the examination nationwide.
Director of Information, Azeez Sani, in a statement that he signed, said candidates registered for 12 subjects and were drawn from the 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and five foreign countries.
The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and was successfully concluded on April 30, 2026.
According to Mr Sani, the results were approved and released following the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the NECO Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
The meeting reviewed the conduct of the examination and the processes leading to the release of the results.

Speaking during the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee, Dr (Mrs) Folake David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, who represented the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the procedures adopted by the Council in conducting the examination and releasing the results.
The meeting was attended by NECO management and selected secondary school principals from different parts of the country, who participated in the review and approval of the results.
Meanwhile, the Award Committee has approved 22 and 23 July 2026 for the conduct of the BECE Re-sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.
The re-sit examination is designed for candidates with conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both.
NECO explained that the re-sit examination will provide affected candidates with another opportunity to remedy their deficiencies and obtain the required certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School One (SSS1) without having to repeat an academic year.
