The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has reaffirmed his country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria, reiterating China’s continued commitment to expanding cooperation that delivers mutual benefits to both countries.
In a statement marking the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC), the ambassador said the Party’s leadership has been central to China’s economic transformation and modernisation over the past century.
“Many international friends often ask what lies behind China’s remarkable success. The answer, above all, is the leadership of the Communist Party of China,” Yu said.
According to the Ambassador, the CPC, founded in 1921, has guided China through decades of economic reforms and development, enabling the country to become the world’s second-largest economy while pursuing what he described as high-quality development.
He said China’s modernisation experience demonstrates that countries should pursue development paths suited to their own national circumstances.
“There is no one-size-fits-all model for modernisation; simply copying another country’s model or relying on external forces cannot deliver lasting success,” he stated.
Highlighting China’s social development, Yu said the country has made significant progress in poverty reduction, education, healthcare and social security, describing these achievements as products of a people-centred development philosophy.
“The Party remains committed to a people-centred philosophy of development, with improving people’s well-being as its fundamental goal,” he said.
The envoy also emphasised China’s commitment to international cooperation through initiatives aimed at promoting development, security and global governance.
Bilateral Relations
Speaking on bilateral relations, Yu noted that China and Nigeria have maintained diplomatic relations since 1971 and have continued to deepen cooperation across various sectors, including trade, infrastructure, investment, education and cultural exchanges.
“For 55 years, China and Nigeria have stood together through thick and thin as good friends and trusted partners,” he said.
He stressed that both countries have continued to strengthen political mutual trust and practical cooperation through platforms such as the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).
According to the Ambassador, China will continue to support Nigeria’s efforts to pursue development in line with its national priorities while expanding mutually beneficial cooperation.
“Standing at a new historical starting point, the CPC and the Chinese Government stand ready to work with Nigeria to carry forward our traditional friendship, deepen exchanges on party building and state governance, strengthen strategic communication, further consolidate political mutual trust, and continue to advance the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership to new heights,” Yu said.
He expressed optimism that stronger cooperation between the two countries would contribute to shared prosperity and the continued growth of the China-Nigeria Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
The statement was issued as China commemorated the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China on 1 July 2026.
