The Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) have outlined a coordinated national security strategy focused on intelligence-led operations, border management and critical infrastructure protection.

Speaking at a joint security press briefing at the Office of the National Security Adviser in Abuja, the agencies highlighted operational achievements recorded in the first half of 2026 and emphasised efforts to prevent security threats before they escalate into major national crises.

The DSS said it rescued more than 200 kidnapped victims through joint operations with other security agencies, dismantled arms trafficking networks, disrupted terrorist activities in several states and foiled an attempted hijack of a crude oil vessel in the Gulf of Guinea.

The Service also highlighted significant judicial outcomes, including convictions and death sentences secured in terrorism, kidnapping, terrorism financing and arms proliferation cases linked to the Owo church attack, Papiri school kidnapping and other criminal activities across Kogi, Sokoto, Katsina and Ekiti states.

Beyond kinetic operations, the DSS said it expanded rehabilitation support for rescued victims and strengthened community-based conflict mediation initiatives, including interventions that helped reduce communal tensions in Taraba State.

The NSCDC, said intelligence-led investigations resulted in court orders sealing the nationwide operations of Inner Galaxy Steel Company and Jiuxing Integrity Industrial Ltd over alleged processing of vandalised critical national infrastructure.

The Corps also dismantled an illegal arms manufacturing factory in Yobe State, arrested suspects linked to kidnapping, illegal mining and cattle rustling, disrupted organised cable theft syndicates across the Federal Capital Territory and neighbouring states, and intercepted counterfeit foreign currency valued at about ₦1 billion.

Conflict Management

In addition, the NSCDC said that it resolved 2,692 out of 3,420 conflict cases handled nationwide, reflecting its expanding role in conflict management alongside infrastructure protection.

The Nigeria Immigration Service said enforcement operations conducted between January and May led to the repatriation of 567 foreign nationals, the deportation of six others and the rescue of 563 trafficking victims who were handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP).

Border Crossings

The service also reported the arrest of suspected human traffickers, the recovery of National Identification Number cards from irregular migrants, the interception of stowaways attempting illegal border crossings and the expansion of awareness campaigns targeting border communities and more than 107,000 National Youth Service Corps members.

According to the NIS, its e-Border Solution and Integrated Operating Centre continue to strengthen real-time surveillance, intelligence gathering and migration management across Nigeria’s borders.

The agencies said evolving security threats require institutions to adapt rapidly as criminal networks become increasingly sophisticated and technology-driven.

They maintained that Nigeria’s security architecture must continue to strengthen its capacity to anticipate and prevent threats in order to safeguard national security and stability.
