The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to upholding military tradition, honouring veterans and strengthening national security.
At the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2026 Gala Night, the Army recognised the sacrifices of both serving and retired personnel, while highlighting its evolutioInto a modern, professional and mission-ready force.

The event, held ahead of the grand finale of the 163rd Nigerian Army Day Celebration in Port Harcourt, underscored the Army’s strategy of preserving institutional memory, enhancing professionalism and fostering national unity, with emphasis on recognising those who have served the nation.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, described NADCEL 2026 as a milestone in the ongoing transformation of the Nigerian Army.
He said the week-long activities reflected the evolution of the Service into a strategic institution committed to national cohesion, stability and security.
In a statement, the Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said Lieutenant General Shaibu paid tribute to fallen heroes, noting that their courage, resilience and sacrifices remain the foundation for building a stronger and more secure Nigeria.
He also reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to defending the Constitution, improving troop welfare and modernising its operational capabilities to address emerging security threats.
The Army leadership acknowledged the support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that sustained government investment has enhanced operational effectiveness, force development and mission readiness across various theatres.
Representing Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, the Secretary to the State Government, Dr Dagogo Wokoma, described the Gala Night as a fitting tribute to officers and soldiers, and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to continued collaboration with the Nigerian Army in logistics, operations and personnel welfare.
The Army also highlighted achievements recorded during NADCEL 2026.
The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Musa Etsu-Ndagi, said the celebration showcased operational successes, humanitarian activities and growing strategic partnerships.
The Army further recognised the humanitarian interventions of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA) under its National President, Dr Safiyyah Hassan Shaibu, as well as the successful hosting of the African Land Forces Forum, which brought together military leaders from across Africa to strengthen regional security cooperation.
It also expressed appreciation to the Rivers State Government, African Chiefs of Army Staff, veterans and former Force Commander of ECOMOG, Major General Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd), for their contributions to peace, security and military cooperation on the continent.
The Gala Night featured cultural displays, documentary presentations, musical performances and awards to distinguished veterans and African Chiefs of Army Staff for their contributions to regional and continental security.
Dignitaries at the event included former Chiefs of Defence Staff, former Chiefs of Army Staff, diplomats, traditional rulers, serving and retired senior military officers, discharged personnel and their families, reflecting the strong bond between the Nigerian Army, its veterans and partners.
