The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved ₦673 million as compensation for traders whose shops were demolished at Target Junction in Jimeta to allow for the construction of a Mother and Child Hospital.

The approval was part of resolutions reached at the Council’s 10th meeting of 2026, chaired by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri at the Government House in Yola.

Briefing journalists after the meeting, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Barrister Iliya James Leneke, said the compensation was intended to provide relief to affected traders who lost their business premises following the government’s acquisition of the site for the healthcare project.

He explained that the compensation reflected the administration’s commitment to balancing infrastructure development with the welfare of citizens affected by public projects.

The Executive Council also approved the construction of the 18-kilometre Shuwa-Bituku Road at a cost of ₦8.6 billion.

The contract was awarded to Amijab Nigeria Limited with a completion period of 10 months.

According to the commissioner, the road project is expected to improve transportation and economic activities in rural communities while enhancing access to social services.

In the education sector, the Council approved ₦3.1 billion for the construction of perimeter fences in 20 secondary schools under the World Bank-supported Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme.

The project is aimed at improving security in schools and protecting school property from encroachment.

The Council further approved the procurement of start-up packs valued at ₦367 million for 1,433 graduates of Alternative Learning Centres under the AGILE programme.

The beneficiaries, trained in vocational skills including tailoring, fashion design, makeup and beauty therapy, are expected to receive equipment to establish sustainable businesses and improve their livelihoods.

The approvals form part of the Adamawa State Government’s efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery, improve infrastructure, expand access to education and promote youth and women’s empowerment across the state.
