Chinwe Onuigbo, Awka

The Anambra State Executive Council has approved a series of policy measures and infrastructure projects aimed at improving governance, expanding access to justice, and addressing key development challenges across the state.

The approvals were made at the fifth Executive Council meeting of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s second-term administration, according to a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Value Reorientation, Dr Law Mefor.

Among the decisions was the immediate implementation of the Soludozie Anambra Programme, a Public-Private-Community Partnership initiative designed to mobilise high-net-worth individuals and communities across the state’s 179 communities to support the provision of roads, schools, and healthcare facilities.

The council also approved the release of ₦551.9 million for external works on the permanent building of the Solution Innovation District in Awka, as part of efforts to promote innovation and technology-driven development.

To address the shortage of student accommodation, the government approved a partnership with private investors to develop affordable hostels in tertiary institutions under a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model. Mefor said implementation of the initiative would begin immediately.

The Executive Council further approved measures to strengthen the state’s Grievance Redress Mechanism (GRM) to improve the resolution of complaints relating to public service delivery and human rights.

According to the commissioner, the enhanced mechanism will provide residents with a more accessible platform for lodging and resolving grievances involving government institutions.

The council also directed increased public awareness of the Small Claims Courts in Anambra State to encourage their use for the speedy and cost-effective resolution of minor civil disputes.

Mefor said the decisions reflected the state government’s commitment to improving service delivery, promoting inclusive governance, and accelerating sustainable development across Anambra State.
