The Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has promised that the ongoing provision of clean water by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) will be extended to all the area councils of the territory.
The President gave the assurance while inaugurating the newly constructed Bwari Water Supply Network in Bwari on Tuesday.
Tinubu, represented by the First Lady, Sen Oluremi, said that for years, residents of Bwari, Ushafa, and surrounding communities have relied on water from untreated boreholes and streams.
He said that the inauguration of the water supply project was in fulfilment of his administration’s promise under the Renewed Hope Agenda, describing it as “not merely a slogan but a contract”.
“As we mark our third anniversary in office, we are here today to celebrate the fulfilment of that promise right here in Bwari.
“Water is life. Clean water is dignity; it is a fundamental right, not a luxury and today we are inaugurating this massive, state-of-the-art 198-kilometre water pipeline network.
“By linking Bwari township and its environs directly to our major treated water source at the Lower Usuma Dam, we are ending waterborne diseases and the constant, expensive digging of individual boreholes.
“Last year, it was the Lower Usuma Dam Phase II rehabilitation; last month, it was the Karu Water Network; today it is Bwari.
“I assure you, by the grace of God, before our tenure is through, this water revolution will fully cover Kuje, Kwali, Gwagwalada, and Abaji,” he said.
The president commended the FCT Minister, Mr Nyesom Wike, for his fiscal discipline, political will and a deep love for residents of the territory.
He said that from boosting the FCT’s Internally Generated Revenue to executing 31 landmark projects to roads, housing and now water, Wike has proven to be a reliable champion of his Renewed Hope Agenda.
Earlier, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike recalled that Tinubu gave the directive to expand water supply to the satellite towns during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Project in 2025.
He said that in compliance with the directive, the Karu Water Supply Network was inaugurated on June 29, “and today, we are inaugurating the Bwari Water Supply Network”.
“Let people know that we’re not only concentrating on roads; we’re also making sure other sectors are being touched,” the minister said.
He said that the Bwari Water Supply Network is the 50th project inaugurated in the FCT since President Bola Tinubu assumed office on May 29, 2023.
”Let me also put on notice that since the assumption of Mr President on May 29, 2023, today is the 50th inauguration of projects.
”I am not talking about the unofficial ones, and before January 2027, God willing, we will inaugurate another 10 projects before campaigns for the 2027 elections begin.
”Let me also say this: since Mr President came on board, virtually all the road projects in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, have been completed and inaugurated in 2025.
”By the grace of God, before the end of this year, we will also inaugurate the 17-kilometre Bwari to Kubwa Road,” he said.
According to him, the essence of governance is to make people happy and make changes in their lives for the better. That is what Tinubu is doing.
The minister recalled that Tinubu gave a mandate during the inauguration of the Greater Abuja Water Project that the water supply projects must be extended to satellite towns.
In her remarks, FCT Minister for State, Dr Mariya Mahmoud, described the water projects as a major milestone in the implementation of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Mahmoud said that the agenda was expanding access to essential infrastructure and improving the quality of life of FCT residents.
She also commended Tinubu for his unwavering support for the development of the nation’s capital and praised Wike for his visionary leadership in accelerating infrastructure delivery across the FCT, particularly in underserved satellite towns.
Describing the project as “the fulfilment of a promise”, Mahmoud said access to clean water would improve public health, enhance livelihoods and restore public confidence in government.
Earlier, acting Executive Secretary, Federal Capital Development Authority, Engr Richard Dauda, said that the project to expand water supply in Bwari was awarded in August 2025.

Dauda said that the goal was to improve access to portable water supply to the teeming FCT residents to further complement the completed Greater Abuja Water Project.
”This project provides the essential secondary and pipeline network to which the Bwari community’s tertiary distribution network is now connected for effective supply to end users.
”The project is designed to upgrade and expand the existing reservoir system and distribution capacity to serve the vast majority of the Bwari area, including settlements like Ushafa, Aji, Zuma, Gaba, and Kuchiko,” he said.
