The governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State has promised to generate 3.5 megawatts of electricity within the span of four years if elected governor in the forthcoming August 15 election.
Mr Bola Oyebamiji said this on Thursday at the flag-off of the APC campaign in Ile-Ife.
He remarked that the party hierarchy was working on plans to improve electricity supply across the state to support businesses, small- and medium-scale enterprises as well as artisans who depend on power for their livelihood.
“We have already begun discussions with a German company which has indicated its readiness to generate 3.5 megawatts of electricity. We have reached an advanced stage in the discussions. The only thing left is for us to win the election, assume office and sign the memorandum of understanding so work can commence.
“We assure the people of quality healthcare delivery. We will take better care of civil servants in ways they have never experienced before, especially teachers. We will invest heavily in their training so they can provide quality education to our children. Their capacity-building programmes will not be limited to Nigeria; we will also sponsor them for training abroad to expose them to global best practices in teaching,” he said.
Oyebamiji, who pledged to spread development across the state, promised neither to display nepotism nor to deceive the electorates.
“Our administration will encourage health workers abroad to return home to work in Osun through adequate investments in health. My government will also invest in farming. We will give farmers hybrid seeds that will increase yields. Our agriculture policy will encourage workers to embrace farming through construction of rural roads, grants and establishment of commodity boards.
“Our government will equally be just to all religious groups. Market women and transport union workers are our partners. We will assist your unions to enhance your work to benefit your members through various interventions,” Oyebamiji stated.
During a courtesy visit to the palace of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Oyebamiji revealed that his advanced team had assessed the condition of the roads in Ile-Ife and promised to reconstruct the Enuwa-Fajuyi Junction road, Ilare-Sabo Road and the Aderemi Road to Ondo Road if elected governor.
“We will renovate all dilapidated primary schools in Ile-Ife. We also plan to establish a modern market befitting the status of Ile-Ife as the cradle of the Yoruba race. We want a magnificent market that will make anyone visiting from any part of the world recognise it as the cradle of the Yoruba race. This is because we understand the importance of Ile-Ife.
Responding, the Ooni of Ife used the opportunity to appreciate President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in tackling insecurity and preventing bandits from invading the Southwest region. He thus prayed God to continue to strengthen and guide the administration as it works to improve the situation of the country.
Eschew Violence
The monarch commended the APC in Osun State for towing the path of reconciliation and advised them to see themselves as one family, just as he told the politicians to eschew violence in all ramifications.
“There should be no bloodshed in Osun. Politics should be conducted peacefully without rancour and enmity. We do not want bloodshed. Osun people are known for virtues; let us set a good example. Let everything be peaceful.”
The Ooni insisted that the state is greater than anyone, saying while politics will come and go, Osun remains a place for all citizens and residents.
