Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has received a proposal for the establishment of the Zobis Industrial City, a multi-sector industrial and commercial development expected to boost manufacturing, attract investment and create thousands of jobs in southeastern Nigeria.
The proposal was presented by the Chairman of Zobis Cable Industries, Mr. John Ezeobi, during a meeting with the governor in Awka, the Anambra State capital.
The proposed industrial city, to be located across Okoti, Odekpe and Ogbaru Local Government Areas of the state, will comprise more than 15 industrial and commercial facilities, including cable manufacturing plants, copper processing facilities, switchgear and PVC factories, a research and development institute, residential quarters and integrated logistics infrastructure.
Speaking during the presentation, Ezeobi said the project was designed to strengthen Nigeria’s manufacturing sector by promoting local production, reducing dependence on imports and creating employment opportunities.
“This initiative is about strengthening Nigeria’s manufacturing base, promoting local content and positioning Anambra as a major industrial hub in West Africa,” he said.
According to the project proposal, the industrial city will cover approximately 94 hectares, with a built-up area of more than 800,000 square metres.
The first phase is expected to create more than 15,000 direct jobs.
Ezeobi said the development would also provide a platform for innovation, research and industrial collaboration while supporting the Anambra State Government’s industrialisation and economic development agenda.
Governor Soludo said the proposed industrial city aligns with his administration’s vision of building a productive and industrialised economy driven by private-sector investment.
He noted that expanding manufacturing capacity and industrial infrastructure would strengthen Nigeria’s economy by creating jobs, promoting value addition, reducing dependence on imports and enhancing the country’s competitiveness in regional and global markets.
The proposal aligns with ongoing efforts by the Anambra State Government to attract private-sector investment, expand manufacturing capacity, strengthen infrastructure and promote sustainable economic growth.
The planned industrial city also supports Nigeria’s broader economic diversification agenda, which seeks to reduce reliance on oil revenues by expanding the manufacturing sector, increasing value-added production and encouraging private-sector investment.
