The Nigeria Police Force has announced significant progress in its nationwide security operations, revealing that its commands arrested 1,198 suspects for various offences and rescued 166 kidnapped victims across the country between June 9 and June 21, 2026.
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, speaking on Tuesday at the monthly conference with strategic senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force in Abuja said the achievements reflected the commitment and sacrifices of police personnel nationwide.
IGP Disu said that the force must continue to improve its operational effectiveness.
He tasked officers of the the Nigeria Police force to continually improve on their operational effectiveness as crime is becoming dynamic.

According to him, the security environment remains challenging despite recent successes against criminal elements.
“Nigeria’s security environment remains demanding. We have recorded real successes in recent months, but terrorism, kidnapping, banditry, armed robbery, cult-related violence, cybercrime and other organised criminal activity continue to evolve, and we have to evolve faster than they do,” he said.
The police chief said commanders across the federation must strengthen intelligence gathering, surveillance and collaboration with other security agencies, stressing that operational deployments should always be intelligence-driven.
Disu also urged Commissioners of Police to develop strategies tailored to the peculiar security realities in their respective states while ensuring every operation is reviewed to improve future performance.
“Success is not the number of operations we run. It is the security outcomes those operations produce,” he stated.
Providing an update on police operations since the last conference, the IGP said 151 suspects were arrested for murder and culpable homicide, 117 for armed robbery, 151 for kidnapping, 104 for cult-related offences and 169 for unlawful possession of firearms.
He added that operatives recovered 166 assorted firearms, 1,475 rounds of ammunition and 47 stolen vehicles during the period.
“Behind every one of these numbers is an officer who did their job well, often at real personal risk. I want that to be understood and appreciated,” he said.
The IGP singled out the recent rescue of abducted students and teachers in Oyo State as a model of successful inter-agency collaboration.
He said the operation succeeded through the combined efforts of the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces, intelligence agencies and members of the public who provided timely and credible information.
“The operation succeeded because of close collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force, the Armed Forces of Nigeria, other security and intelligence agencies, and members of the public who came forward with timely, credible information,” he said.
While commending officers involved in the rescue mission, Disu cautioned against complacency, saying every operational success should motivate security agencies to do more.
“We cannot let a success like Oyo breed complacency. Every achievement should push us to improve further, not to relax,” he said.
He also called on Nigerians to continue supporting security agencies with useful information, describing community partnership as essential to tackling crime.
“Every piece of information matters. If you see something, say something. Together we can make it harder for criminal elements to operate,” the IGP added.
