Nigeria’s Information and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed has applauded the Nigerian military over their kinetic and non kinetic strategy and approach which is yielding results.
The recent surrendering in droves of Boko Haram fighters that could not withstand the heat and fire power from the military operations and the carot approach deployed.
In an interview on Thursday as part of his International media engagement in Washington DC, the Minister said the Nigerian military deserves huge commendation for their doggedness and sophisticated strategy.
He also applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for believing and having faith in the country’s military to succeed in the fight against insurgency.
“We are succeeding as a government in the fight hut we won’t relent.We Will continue to pursue and fight Boko Haram and ISWAP to the finish line.Government will ensure the fighting moral of our men is kept high and well motivated.”
Alhaji Mohammed said what the military is doing was international best practice.The convention is that once a soldier surrenders, he is treated as a prisoner of war,thus cannot be shot.
He debunked the rumours and falsehood making the rounds that the surrendered elements will be recruit into the army.
He also called on Nigerians to keep supporting the military.Accordong to him,the fact that Nigeria is still holding forth amd winning the war should be commended.
“Look at what happened in Afghanistan. This has shown that our military is getting it right.We should stop this negativity rumour mongering and support our men and women in uniform because they are doing a fantastic job with huge sacrifice,” he said.
Recall that last week, more than 1,000 Boko Haram members and their hostages surrendered to the Nigerian government, including two high-school students who were kidnapped seven years ago from the town of Chibok, in Southern Borno state, North East Nigeria in what security officials and mediators called a new chapter in Nigeria’s decade long war against insurgency.
