The Defence Intelligence Agency (DIA) has expanded accommodation for its personnel with the commissioning of a new 20-unit staff housing block in Abuja, reinforcing the Federal Government’s drive to improve troops’ welfare as a foundation for stronger operational effectiveness and national security.
The development was announced by the Ministry of Defence, where the Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Mohammed Matawalle, commissioned the newly completed one-bedroom staff accommodation at Nyanya in line with the welfare objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration.
Speaking during the ceremony, Dr Matawalle described decent accommodation as one of the most important welfare requirements for military personnel, stressing that improved living conditions enhance morale, strengthen operational efficiency and deepen commitment to national service.
He maintained that quality housing provides personnel with the peace of mind required to remain focused on safeguarding Nigeria’s security interests.

The Minister commended the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lieutenant General Emmanuel Undiandeye, for delivering the project, describing it as a significant welfare intervention that reflects the Defence Intelligence Agency’s commitment to improving the well-being of its workforce.
He also expressed appreciation to President Tinubu for sustaining investments aimed at strengthening troops’ welfare and operational capability across the Armed Forces.
As supervising Minister of the Defence Intelligence Agency, Dr Matawalle reaffirmed the Ministry’s continued support for the Agency’s intelligence mandate and broader national security responsibilities.
He also urged beneficiaries to maintain the newly commissioned accommodation to ensure its long-term value for future personnel.
Earlier, Lieutenant General Undiandeye welcomed the Minister and thanked him for personally commissioning the project, describing the visit as another demonstration of the Federal Government’s commitment to the welfare of Defence Intelligence Agency personnel.
He also conveyed appreciation to President Tinubu for supporting the Agency while reaffirming the loyalty and dedication of its officers and personnel to Nigeria’s security.
The commissioning concluded with the unveiling and inspection of the newly remodelled accommodation, attended by senior military officers, civilian staff, regimental personnel and members of the Defence Intelligence Agency Officers’ Wives Association.
