Women Affairs Ministry, NYSC Deepen Development Partnership

The Federal Ministry of Women Affairs and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) have strengthened their partnership to advance women empowerment, youth development, healthcare, entrepreneurship and other community-based social programmes across Nigeria.

The renewed collaboration was announced during a meeting between the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, and the NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Olakunle Oluseye Nafiu, in Abuja.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim said stronger collaboration among government institutions was essential to delivering sustainable development, describing the ministry as one that serves families, women, children and other vulnerable groups.

“We cannot achieve national prosperity in isolation. Strong institutions must collaborate, strengthen systems, document results and scale impact for the benefit of Nigerians,” she said.

The minister praised the NYSC’s contribution to nation-building and welcomed data showing female graduates have outnumbered males in Nigerian tertiary institutions since 2021, saying the figures would support gender equality policies and evidence-based planning.

She also highlighted plans to introduce more family-friendly workplace policies, expand women’s economic empowerment programmes and partner with the NYSC on healthcare outreach, entrepreneurship training and campaigns against gender-based violence.

Brigadier General Nafiu commended the minister’s leadership, saying the ministry’s investments in girl-child education and gender inclusion were producing measurable results.

“The positive outcomes we are witnessing today are evidence that these investments are yielding measurable national results,” he said.

He reaffirmed the NYSC’s commitment to supporting the ministry through healthcare outreach, skills acquisition, entrepreneurship, community development and advocacy programmes.

Both organisations agreed to appoint focal officers to develop an implementation framework aimed at expanding healthcare, youth empowerment, entrepreneurship and social protection initiatives nationwide.
