Strong winds and heavy rain hit parts of China on Saturday as Typhoon Noul intensified, prompting weather authorities to advise residents to avoid unnecessary travel due to possible transport disruptions.
Noul, the 12th typhoon of the year, is expected to make landfall between Hong Kong and Lufeng in Guangdong Province sometime between late Saturday and Sunday morning.
China’s National Meteorological Centre warned that Guangdong, along with the neighbouring provinces of Fujian, Jiangxi and Hunan, would be directly impacted by the storm. It urged the public to take precautions, avoid unnecessary travel and remain alert to potential disaster threats.
More than 20,000 people had been relocated across parts of Guangdong by Friday evening.

Guangdong began suspending rail services on Saturday, with both high-speed and conventional train operations expected to be halted on Sunday.
Airport operations in Hong Kong, Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Zhuhai and Xiamen could be disrupted from Saturday onward.
