The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has inducted 73 of its Public Relations Officers into the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), reaffirming its commitment to strengthening strategic communication and promoting professionalism within its public relations cadre.
The officers were inducted following the successful completion of the NIPR Training and Certification Programme at the Service Headquarters in Abuja.
Representing the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, the Deputy Comptroller-General in charge of Visa and Residency, Franca Nwanneka, charged the newly inducted officers to uphold the highest standards of professionalism.
She urged them to proactively manage public perception, counter misinformation, respond effectively to crises, and strengthen public trust as the Service advances technology-driven reforms in migration management and border governance.
Nwanneka also commended the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations for its collaboration in strengthening and professionalising public relations practice within the Nigeria Immigration Service.
The President and Chairman of the NIPR Council, Dr Ike Neliaku, formally inducted the officers into the Institute. In his address, he urged them to uphold ethics, professionalism and lifelong learning as the core values of the public relations profession.
Delivering the closing remarks, the Service Public Relations Officer, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration Akinsola Akinlabi, highlighted the Comptroller-General’s unwavering commitment to capacity building and her resolve to standardise public relations practice within the Service.
He expressed appreciation to the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, the resource persons and all stakeholders whose support made the landmark programme a success. He also urged the Public Relations Officers to translate the knowledge they had acquired into practical action, reinforcing the Service’s commitment to effective public engagement.
The successful completion of the training and induction further demonstrates the Service’s commitment to the continuous professional development of its personnel through strategic partnerships and specialised training programmes that strengthen its core mandates of migration management and border governance.
