Cross River State Governor, Senator Bassey Otu, has reassigned commissioners in a cabinet reshuffle aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery as his administration enters a new phase.
The changes were announced during an emergency meeting of the State Executive Council at Government House, Calabar, in a statement issued by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr Linus Obogo.
According to the statement, while some commissioners were reassigned to new ministries, others retained their portfolios in recognition of what the governor described as their outstanding performance.
Governor Otu said the reshuffle was a strategic move to reposition the administration for greater efficiency and accelerate the implementation of his People First agenda.
He stressed that the exercise was neither a reward nor a punishment, but a leadership decision aimed at aligning individual strengths with the evolving priorities of government.
“Government is a living institution; it must constantly adjust to new realities. This exercise is about injecting fresh energy, maximising individual strengths and ensuring that every member of this cabinet remains focused on the larger vision of transforming Cross River State. We have crossed the threshold of foundation-laying; this is the season of consolidation and accelerated delivery,” the governor said.
The governor also reminded members of the Executive Council that governance must remain their priority despite the approaching general elections.
“Electioneering must never distract us from governance. The people will judge us, not by slogans, but by roads constructed, hospitals revitalised, schools improved, jobs created and the quality of life we have enhanced. Every commissioner must see his or her ministry as a performance centre. There is absolutely no room for complacency,” he said.
Calls for Greater Collaboration
Governor Otu urged commissioners to regard their new assignments as opportunities for renewed service, whether they had been reassigned or retained.
