Police in Kano State have rescued 10 passengers abducted by suspected bandits following an attack on a commercial bus along the Jos–Kano Highway in Doguwa Local Government Area, while a manhunt is underway to secure the release of three remaining victims.
The incident occurred along the Falgore Forest axis, between Gate Two on the Safer Highway and Dogo Dutse, where a Toyota Hiace bus, with registration number BKK 6824 XA, travelling from Jos to Kano, was ambushed by armed assailants.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the attackers, five men reportedly armed with machetes and a firearm, blocked the highway and abducted 13 of the 20 passengers on board.
Nine abducted passengers were rescued during the operation, while another male victim later escaped from captivity, bringing the total number of rescued victims to 10.
According to the police, the rescued passengers were taken to Doguwa General Hospital, where they received medical attention.
The Command said the rescued victims are in stable condition. However, three victims, one man and two women, remain in captivity.
The police added that additional tactical teams have been deployed, backed by intelligence-led operations, to track down the fleeing suspects, rescue the remaining captives, and bring those responsible to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, Ibrahim Bakori, commended residents and motorists whose timely information enabled a rapid response, describing community cooperation as critical to the operation’s success.
He reassured the public of the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across Kano State and urged residents to continue reporting suspicious movements and criminal activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency lines.
