Lucara Botswana has recovered a 1,305.4‑carat rough diamond at its Karowe Mine, the company’s 10th discovery exceeding 1,000 carats since operations began in 2012.
Managing director Naseem Lahri presented the diamond to President Duma Boko and cabinet on Wednesday, marking the latest in a series of record‑setting finds that have placed Karowe at the centre of global high‑value diamond production.
Karowe diamond mine has been in production since 2012 and is one of the world’s foremost producers of large, high-quality, Type IIA diamonds in excess of 10.8 carats.
The mine has produced several notable stones in recent years, including the 2,488‑carat Motswedi – the largest diamond found in more than a century – as well as the 1,758-carat Sewelô and the 1,109-carat Lesedi La Rona.
The latest recovery reinforces Karowe’s reputation for yielding rare Type IIa diamonds that command premium prices on the international market.
