The Nigerian Government says the inauguration of the new Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Administrative Complex in Umuahia, Abia State, forms part of a broader strategy to strengthen security across the South-East through enhanced military preparedness, regional stability and stronger civil-military cooperation.
The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), stated this while commissioning the facility alongside Abia State Governor Alex Otti and the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke.
According to a statement by the Minister’s Special Assistant on Media, Leah Katung-Babatunde, Musa commended the Abia State Government for investing in critical defence infrastructure, describing the project as a model for collaboration between state governments and the Armed Forces.
He stressed that effective national security requires the combined efforts of the military, governments at all levels and citizens, noting that modern military operations rely on strong administrative infrastructure for improved planning, coordination, personnel management and operational readiness.
The Defence Minister also praised Nigerian Air Force personnel for their role in combating terrorism, insurgency, banditry, kidnapping and crude oil theft.
He urged officers deployed to Abia to remain professional and build public trust through responsible conduct that promotes peace and stronger civil-military relations.
Musa linked the project to the Federal Government’s wider South-East security agenda, saying it follows the 60th memorial of Nigeria’s first military Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi, and the recent South-East Security Summit. He assured that resolutions from the summit would be implemented through concrete security actions.
Governor Alex Otti described security as a fundamental right of every citizen, saying the facility reflects his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting the establishment of a Nigerian Air Force presence in Abia State.
The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, assured that the Nigerian Air Force would fully utilise the facility to strengthen air power projection and enhance security coverage across the South-East.
