The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has completed a specialised Counter-Terrorism Investigations Train-the-Trainer Programme in Rabat, Morocco, reaffirming its commitment to strengthening global peace and combating terrorism through enhanced investigative capacity.
The training, organised by the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism (UNOCT) under its Global Counter-Terrorism Investigations Programme in collaboration with Al Akhawayn University, was held from July 13 to 31, 2026.
It brought together law enforcement officers from Nigeria, Kenya, and Burkina Faso to deepen cooperation and enhance professional capacity in tackling terrorism, violent extremism, and transnational crime.

A 10-member Nigerian delegation, led by ACP Favour Fadawa of the Nigeria Police Academy, took part in the programme, which focused on strengthening investigative skills and promoting intelligence-led counter-terrorism operations.
Participants received training on identifying terrorist networks, disrupting criminal organisations, preserving admissible evidence, and ensuring accountability in line with the rule of law.
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, described effective counter-terrorism investigations as critical to both national and global security.
IGP Disu expressed confidence that the knowledge and skills gained from the programme would significantly improve the operational capacity of the Force in responding to evolving security threats and increasingly sophisticated transnational criminal networks.
The IGP directed the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Training, Development, DIG Isyaku Mohammed, and the Commandant of the Nigeria Police Academy to immediately institutionalise the knowledge acquired during the programme across the Force.
IGP Disu also disclosed that the proposed Executive Master’s Programme at the Nigeria Police Academy had reached an advanced stage in its accreditation and commencement process, while commending UNOCT, Al Akhawayn University, and other partners for supporting the initiative.
The Nigeria Police Force expressed appreciation to UNOCT, Al Akhawayn University, participating countries, the Government, and the people of the Kingdom of Morocco for their support and hospitality.
It reiterated its resolve to build a modern, intelligence-driven, professionally competent police institution capable of addressing terrorism and transnational crime while contributing to regional and global peace.
