The Maritime Police Command has reiterated its commitment to sustained collaboration with relevant maritime stakeholders in the interest of national security, public safety and economic prosperity.
The Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Maritime Police Command, AIG Okunade Ronke Nurat, stated this while receiving the Flag Officer Commanding of the Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Abubakar Mustapha, in Lagos.
The visit underscored the longstanding cordial relationship and operational synergy between the Western Naval Command and the Maritime Police Command, aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s coastal defence through sustained inter-agency collaboration.
During the visit, Rear Admiral Mustapha reaffirmed the Nigerian Navy’s commitment to ensuring effective maritime security within the Western zone and the nation’s territorial waters and high seas.

He highlighted the Navy’s readiness to sustain and strengthen its collaboration with the Maritime Police Command in combating criminal activities along the nation’s waterways.
“The collective efforts of maritime security agencies have contributed significantly to Nigeria’s removal from the global piracy list, and I pledge continued synergy through intelligence sharing, joint operations and resource collaboration,” Rear Admiral Mustapha pledged.
In her remarks, AIG Nurat welcomed the Flag Officer Commanding and his entourage.
“The visit reflects the enduring partnership, mutual respect and excellent working relationship that continue to exist between both commands,” she said.
Nurat described the collaboration as indispensable to safeguarding Nigeria’s maritime environment.
The AIG also conveyed the appreciation of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to the Nigerian Navy for providing officers and men of the Marine Police Unit the opportunity to participate in the recent maritime training programme held in Ojo, Lagos, earlier this year.
She noted that the training significantly enhanced the operational capacity of participating personnel and further strengthened inter-agency cooperation.
The Maritime Police Command assured the Western Naval Command of its unwavering commitment to continued cooperation in achieving a safer and crime-free maritime domain in Nigeria.
