Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, says the President Bola Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda is moving beyond policymaking by translating government decisions into tangible projects, job creation, innovation, and economic opportunities across the country.

Idris stated this during the Presidential Media Team Tour of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) headquarters in Abuja.

NASENI was established to promote science, engineering and technological development, playing a strategic role in Nigeria’s industrialisation efforts.

TTheRenewed Hope Agenda is a policy framework aimed at promoting economic reforms, job creation, investment, technology development and improved opportunities for Nigerians.

Idris said the National Renewed Hope Media Tour was initiated to provide Nigerians with firsthand information on projects and programmes being implemented by the Federal Government, while promoting transparency and accountability.

“We want Nigerians to see for themselves how government policies are being translated into tangible projects, jobs, innovation and opportunities.

Transparency is strengthened when government institutions actively engage the public, while accountability is enhanced when citizens can independently verify progress,” he stated.

The Information Minister described NASENI as a key institution driving Nigeria’s industrial transformation through science, engineering and technology, noting that the agency’s interventions span local manufacturing, renewable energy, agricultural mechanisation, digital technology and skills development.

According to him, President Tinubu’s vision is to build a productive and self-reliant economy anchored on innovation, local value addition and industrial competitiveness.

“Our vision is clear: to move Nigeria from being primarily a consumer nation to becoming a nation of producers, innovators and exporters,” he disclosed.

He noted that the Renewed Hope Agenda places industrialisation, technology and youth empowerment at the centre of the country’s economic transformation by creating an enabling environment for investment, enterprise and sustainable job creation.

Idris commended the management and staff of NASENI for advancing indigenous technology and engineering solutions aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s productive capacity and reducing dependence on imports.

He also praised members of the Presidential Media Team for supporting the Federal Government’s commitment to openness through factual, balanced and firsthand reporting on the implementation of key government programmes and projects before officially declaring the tour open.

Speaking earlier, the Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NASENI, Khalil Suleiman Halilu, said the agency was implementing a practical industrialisation strategy focused on local manufacturing, technology transfer, healthcare innovation and the commercialisation of research.

He disclosed that NASENI’s interventions now cover eight key industrial sectors, with projects spread across the six geopolitical zones and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Our goal is to build sustainable industries by designing products for the Nigerian market, assembling them locally, gradually increasing local content and creating factories that can compete globally. That is how we have been able to establish more than 20 factories within a short period,” he explained.

According to him, the strategy is aimed at boosting local production, reducing reliance on imports and positioning Nigerian industries to compete in global markets.

“For NASENI, the focus is on using science and engineering to create practical solutions, expand production capacity and support Nigeria’s journey towards industrial self-reliance,” he revealed.

Those present at the tour were the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga; the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare; the Special Adviser on Policy Coordination, Hadiza Bala Usman; the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Temitope Ajayi; and the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Communication and Citizen Engagement.
