Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo has called for stronger collaboration among Nigeria’s security agencies to boost security in the country.
The governor made the call while honouring the retiring Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG), Ikioye Orutugu, for his contributions to strengthening security in Anambra State.
Speaking during a special session of the Anambra State Executive Council in Awka, Soludo described Orutugu as “a gift to Nigeria” and commended his professionalism, leadership, and commitment to inter-agency cooperation.

The ceremony coincided with Orutugu’s pull-out parade and his 60th birthday, marking his retirement from the Nigeria Police Force.
The governor said Orutugu worked closely with the military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), and other security agencies to strengthen Anambra’s security architecture, restore public confidence, and improve public safety.
He noted that the achievements recorded during the retired officer’s tenure demonstrate that effective collaboration among security agencies remains essential to tackling Nigeria’s evolving security challenges.
Responding, Orutugu expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, through the Inspector-General of Police, Governor Soludo, security agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, journalists, and the people of Anambra for their support throughout his service.
He recalled that the command inherited significant security challenges but said sustained collaboration among security agencies and the support of the state government resulted in improved public safety and renewed confidence in law enforcement.
The retired police chief also acknowledged journalists as critical partners in crime prevention and public enlightenment, noting that effective media engagement helped project the command’s achievements nationally.
He also appealed to governments at all levels to sustain investment in security institutions, expressing confidence that stronger collaboration among security agencies would further enhance national security, protect lives and property, and promote sustainable socio-economic development.
