Mr. Abdurrahman Bundi, a senior Technical Assistant on Print and Digital Communications to the Borno State Governor, Mr. Abdurrahman Ahmed Bundi, and Professor Babagana Zulum have emerged winners of the Digital Communication category at the 6th National Spokespersons Awards.
Bundi was among 15 individuals and organisations honoured for excellence in public communication at the prestigious ceremony held at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja.
Other recipients included Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mr. Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya; Central Bank of Nigeria Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Sidi-Ali; the Nigerian Customs Service; and the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The 6th National Spokespersons Awards also featured the 4th Edition of the Economic Confidential Lecture and was chaired by the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku.
Speaking on the selection process, Chair of the Jury Panel, Professor Saudat Salah Abdulbaqi, said the 2026 edition attracted 171 nominations, with 99 entries meeting the initial eligibility requirements.
She explained that the qualified entries underwent a second-stage intensive evaluation, which produced 42 candidates, before 30 finalists emerged across 15 categories.
According to her, a seven-member jury assessed all shortlisted entries based on four core criteria: impact, innovation and originality, reach, and quality of evidence.
The awards were organised by Image Merchants Promotion Limited, publishers of PRNigeria, Economic Confidential and Spokespersons Digest.
In his address, the Chief Executive Officer of IMPR, Alhaji Yusha’u Shuaib, said the Annual Economic Confidential Lecture and National Spokespersons Awards were established to promote informed national discourse, recognise excellence and strengthen professional communication in Nigeria.
The ceremony attracted prominent personalities from the media, public relations and government sectors.
Among the dignitaries present was the Director-General of Voice of Nigeria, Jibrin Baba Ndace, who represented the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris.
Others included former Director of Defence Information, Major General Chris Olukolade; Professor Sule Ya’u Sule; and other senior communication and public relations professionals.
Bundi’s recognition in the Digital Communication category highlights his contribution to strategic public communication and the growing importance of digital platforms in government communication and public engagement.
