President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has commemorated the 85th birthday of former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retired), highlighting that his name and legacy will remain prominent in Nigeria’s historical narrative due to his significant contributions to national development.
He conveyed his felicitations to the former Nigerian leader in a congratulatory message signed on Monday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
President Tinubu described General Babangida as an outstanding leader whose remarkable military career culminated in his leadership of Nigeria following the 1985 coup.

Reflecting on his eight years in office, the President said General Babangida made significant contributions to Nigeria’s political, economic and geographical development.
“Like him or not, former President Babangida impacted Nigeria in ways no other leader has. His eight-year reign left enduring marks on our political, economic, and geographic landscape,” President Tinubu said.
He noted that the former Military President expanded the nation’s economy, established enduring infrastructure and created several agencies and institutions that continue to serve the national interest.
President Tinubu also acknowledged General Babangida’s major role in the creation of several states, attributing the development to his foresight, wisdom and sense of equity and fairness.
He further commended the elder statesman for continuing to offer valuable counsel and guidance to the nation from his Minna residence in Niger State, saying his advice remains an inspiration to younger generations.
President Tinubu wished General Babangida continued good health, renewed strength and many more years of service to the nation.
“I wish you continued grace, good health, and renewed strength. May Almighty Allah keep you with us for many more years to come,” He added.
