The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, has assured industries along the 132kV Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor of sustained electricity supply, while warning against energy theft, meter tampering and manipulation of electricity consumption data.
Tegbe gave the assurance during a high-level engagement with industrial customers along the corridor in Lagos State, following concerns over significant discrepancies between electricity supplied and energy accounted for by market participants.
The Ikorodu–Sagamu corridor is a major industrial cluster, hosting some of the country’s largest electricity consumers.
Technology-based monitoring by the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) since 2024 has revealed anomalies in power consumption and loading patterns.
By 2026, the discrepancies had reportedly resulted in losses of up to 100 megawatts on the corridor, with an estimated financial impact of N120 billion in one year.
The Minister said the Nigerian Government’s priority was to ensure that industries receive the electricity required to sustain production and investment.
He, however, stressed that reliable power supply must be matched by responsible consumption, accurate metering and timely payment.
“We must know where the power is going and what is compromising it,” Tegbe said, directing stakeholders to establish the facts through transparent, scientific and fair investigations.
He warned that the government would take firm action against meter tampering, deliberate interference with energy measurement, data manipulation and other forms of energy theft that deprive the electricity market of legitimate revenue.
“Every consumer must be responsible for its actions and consumption,” the minister stated.
Tegbe urged stakeholders to approach the process with openness and commitment to resolving outstanding issues, stressing that the sustainability of the electricity sector depends on accountability across the value chain.
The meeting was attended by the Managing Director and Executive Directors of NISO, representatives of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), the Managing Directors of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric, as well as representatives of industries operating along the corridor.
