The People’s Redemption Party (PRP) has rejected allegations linking its Bauchi State governorship candidate, Senator Shehu Buba, with banditry and kidnapping activities.
In a statement by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Comrade Muhammed Ishaq, the PRP described the allegations as false, malicious and aimed at damaging the reputation of its candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said it had initially refrained from responding to the allegations, citing concerns that doing so could give further publicity to what it described as unsubstantiated claims.
Growing Popularity
According to the PRP, it is now convinced that there is a deliberate campaign to discredit Senator Shehu Buba because of what the party described as his growing popularity and political prospects in Bauchi State.
The party challenged anyone with evidence of criminal activities involving the candidate to submit such evidence to the appropriate authorities for investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law.
The PRP also referred to provisions of the Electoral Act concerning the publication of false statements about the character or conduct of candidates during an election period, warning against what it described as defamatory claims intended to influence voters.

The party expressed confidence in Senator Shehu Buba, describing him as a serving senator who, it said, had demonstrated commitment to addressing insecurity and other challenges confronting the country.
The PRP therefore called on political opponents and other individuals making the allegations to provide evidence to the relevant authorities rather than engaging in what it described as a campaign of calumny.
