The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has directed personnel of 3 Division, Nigerian Army and Operation Enduring Peace to sustain pressure on criminal groups while supporting peace-building initiatives aimed at consolidating security gains across Plateau State and neighbouring areas.
Lieutenant General Shaibu gave the directive on 14th September 2026 during an operational visit to the headquarters of 3 Division and Operation Enduring Peace, where he reviewed the security environment, ongoing operations and measures being implemented to protect vulnerable communities and sustain progress recorded through the peace process.
The COAS also inspected the ongoing construction of the Nigerian Army Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Control Station as part of the Army’s efforts to modernise its capabilities and strengthen responses to evolving security threats.
Timely Intelligence
Upon completion and activation, the facility is expected to enhance the Army’s Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance capacity, improve real-time awareness of the operational environment and provide commanders with timely intelligence to support sound decision-making.

The General Officer Commanding 3 Division and Commander Operation ENDURING PEACE, Major General Maxwell Dangana, briefed the COAS on developments across the Division’s Area of Responsibility, including current operations, security arrangements and consultations with stakeholders aimed at preventing violence, protecting communities and promoting sustainable peace.
Lieutenant General Shaibu commended the troops for their courage, professionalism and commitment to duty, while directing them to remain alert, disciplined and prepared for operations.
He also stressed the importance of stronger cooperation with other security agencies, traditional authorities, community leaders and other stakeholders involved in the peace process.
The COAS emphasised that military action must operate alongside dialogue, reconciliation and other peace-building measures to prevent criminal elements from undermining security gains.
He therefore directed troops to respond firmly to threats while maintaining professional standards and respecting the rights of law-abiding citizens.
Lieutenant General Shaibu assured the troops that the Nigerian Army would continue providing the support required for them to discharge their constitutional responsibilities.
He reiterated the Army’s commitment to protecting lives and property and helping create conditions in which communities can coexist peacefully and pursue lawful livelihoods without fear.
The COAS also urged residents to continue providing troops and other security agencies with timely and reliable information, stressing that enduring peace on the Plateau requires shared responsibility among security agencies, government institutions, traditional authorities, community leaders and citizens.
The operational engagement therefore combined an assessment of immediate security requirements with a broader emphasis on intelligence capability, inter-agency cooperation and peace-building as complementary components of sustained stability in Plateau State.
