The Controller General of Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS Muhammad Babandede, has described the new E-Border Project as a good Initiative that will contribute to sustainable security across the country.
Babandede stated this at the official commissioning of Sokoto State Command’s new office complex of the service by Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal.
According to him, the E-Border Project covers 84 border posts which are Mega, Mini and Midi.
He further explained that the 84 border posts would have inbuilt surveillance equipment which would be seen 5km around the borders.
“The posts would have patrol vehicles carrying equipment that can transmit activities online to National Headquarters.
” This is a great achievement to national security because we can be able to see what is happening at the borders through digital means and to inform other law enforcement agencies to react if the need comes around,” the Controller General said.
He added that the pilot project had commenced with Illela border and in the next coming one year all other 84 locations across the country would be properly installed and operational which would be a huge investment to national security.
On the new office complex, he said when he came on board as Immigration Boss he committed himself to establish two commands each year.
Babandede said providing a conducive atmosphere for staff to efficiently carry out their service would improve revenue generation to the country.
He further pledged more commitments to reposition the service through the welfare of staff, housing scheme and other incentives.
He charged the Officers to be law-abiding and shun any form of corruption either at the land borders or Airport to save the country from any degree of criminalities.
The Controller General applauded President Muhammad Buhari for his support and cooperation to Nigeria Immigration Service towards realizing its set objectives.
The NIS boss commended Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, and the Sokoto State Government for their continued support and assistance to the agency.
Commissioning the new office complex, the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, commended the Controller General for attaining the feast.
” I commend the foresight, the vision and leadership qualities of the controller general fo not coming with the idea of ensuring that the state commands now work and operate from their complexes, but also providing such commands with conducive atmosphere of work,” Tambuwal said.
Tambuwal said the new office complex will assist to improve in the efficiency and productivity of staff in the command especially in this era of e-border.
” I believe with this new complex the productivity of staff will be enhanced and increase revenue not only to the agency but to the country as a whole,” Tambuwal said.
He applauded Babandede for his efforts in transforming the service especially in the area of information and communication technology which is the order of the day globally.
He however thanked President Buhari for his support not only to Nigeria Immigration Service but to other paramilitaries and urged him to do more as their challenges are very many.
Tambuwal urged all citizens to put all hands on deck to assist the immigration service to carry out their critical role in providing peace and security at land borders.
He promised the Sokoto state government continued support towards discharging their mandate.
Governor Tambuwal also commended the Immigration Boss for using Illela border as a pilot scheme to commence e-border control being it a very strategic and important place that contributes to national development.
