The United Nations has stepped up security measures in New York ahead of the 81st General Assembly, with world leaders expected to gather from Tuesday for the annual high-level meeting.
Flags were raised outside the UN headquarters on Monday as police officers, canine teams and law-enforcement drones were deployed around the venue in preparation for the gathering.
The annual meeting is expected to focus on global governance, peace and security, development and reforms to the international system.

The African Union is expected to renew its call for greater representation at the UN, including permanent African representation on the Security Council.
The heads of the African Union and UN also met to discuss reforms to international financial institutions, debt sustainability and measures to ensure Africa derives greater value from its mineral resources.
Kenyan President William Ruto is expected to use his visit to push issues including climate finance, global governance reform, peace and security, and digital cooperation.
Meanwhile, the UN Development Programme is expected to present an Africa-specific package focusing on artificial intelligence, natural resources, data, talent and access to capital.
