Kogi State government in central Nigeria has performed the official state burial of a former Kogi State Governor, Ibrahim Idris, at the Gudu cemetery in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital on Friday.
Late Governor Idris, who died on Sunday in a London hospital after an illness, was buried in Abuja in line with his personal wish.
Kogi state governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, and two former governors of the state, Yahaya Bello and Idris Wada, were among hundreds of sympathisers and political associates of the late former governor who attended the burial.
The funeral prayers were held at the Abuja National Mosque after Juma’at prayer, while the interment took place at the Gudu Cemetery, Abuja.

Late governor Idris was 77. He governed Kogi State from 2003 to 2012.
The family expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo for their support to the Idris family and the people of Kogi state during the period of mourning.
Ibrahim Idris, popularly known as ‘Ibro’, had a remarkable record of political leadership in the state with regard to humanitarian service to the poor.
Ex-Governor Idris died 15 years after his exit from office as the second civilian governor of the ‘Confluence State‘, where he served the longest term in office as governor of the mineral-rich state, between 2003 and 2012.
The extended tenure of his governorship was marked by a series of legal battles arising from the election petitions against his governorship elections, while elongated tenure in office altered the governorship election calendar of the state.
