Legendary Musician Victor Uwaifo dies at 80

Victor Uwaifo, the legendary musician and professor of performing arts has just transited. He was aged 80.

According to the Nation, a close source to the family confirmed that he died of a brief illness.

The Guitar boy as he was fondly called’ was the exponent of ekassa music, with all time hits like Joromi,Mammy water,Do do do mi ye and Araba de, among others.

He was very influential in the evolution of Nigerian music in the last six decades.

Born Victor Efosa Uwaifo on March 1, 1941 in Edo, Benin City, he is the first professional musicians to be awarded with the National Merit Honours of Member of the Order of the Niger (MON).

He was also the first Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism in Nigeria.
