The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Adamawa State has inaugurated new executive committees at the state, local government and ward levels as part of efforts to strengthen its structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The inauguration of the new State Executive Committee took place in Yola, the State capital, following the conclusion of congresses at the local government and ward levels.
The exercise marks the completion of the party’s reorganisation process across the state.
Chairman of the Congress Electoral Committee for the state, local government and ward congresses, Jalo Danga, said the exercises were conducted peacefully and in line with the PDP Constitution and approved electoral guidelines.
Danga said; “the completion of the congresses had provided the party with duly constituted leadership structures across the three levels.”
He explained that the ward and local government congresses were conducted on Monday, after which the elected executives were sworn in, while the inauguration of the State Executive Committee brought the exercise to a close.
According to him, “the process also enabled the party to fulfil constitutional and electoral requirements for properly constituted executives across the state.”
Danga commended party members for their cooperation and orderly conduct during the congresses.
He urged the newly inaugurated executives to uphold the party’s constitution, promote discipline and discharge their responsibilities with integrity.
He also called on them to avoid actions that could undermine the unity of the party and instead work together to strengthen its structures at the grassroots.
Speaking after his inauguration, the new State Chairman, Belmont Dogo, thanked the party’s national leadership and members for their support throughout the congress process.
Dogo described his emergence and that of other executives as ‘a responsibility to serve the party rather than a privilege.’
He pledged to lead the party with fairness, consultation, discipline and commitment to its constitution.
Dogo also assured the national leadership that the new state executive would work with the National Working Committee and other organs of the party to strengthen the PDP from the grassroots.
Also speaking, Director-General of the Maurice Vunobolki Campaign Organisation, Adamu Ribadu, described the completion of the congresses as an important step towards rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures ahead of the 2027 elections.
He said “the development would help the PDP consolidate its structures across Adamawa State and prepare for the forthcoming political contest.”
He recalled the party’s long-standing political presence in Adamawa since the beginning of the Fourth Republic, saying “its loss of power at the federal level in 2015 was a temporary setback.”
Also,.he pointed to current political developments in the state, including internal challenges within rival parties and the emergence of multiple governorship contenders from Yola South Local Government Area.
Ribadu said; “the PDP would use its grassroots structures to mobilise supporters and mount a statewide campaign ahead of the 2027 governorship election.”
