BON Reaffirms Commitment to Nigeria’s Development

By Abdul Isa, Abuja

The Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Nigeria’s economic and democratic development despite the challenges facing the industry.

In a goodwill message to Nigerians marking the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary, BON said the media sector continues to operate under severe economic pressure, including rising energy costs and dependence on imported broadcast equipment purchased in foreign currencies.

The statement signed by BON Executive Secretary, Dr. Yemisi Bamgbose, said the broadcast industry would continue to promote national unity, equity and justice while holding leaders accountable in line with its constitutional responsibilities.

Commitment to Credible Information

BON also pledged to remain a source of accurate, balanced and credible information for both the government and the public amid the growing spread of fake news, misinformation and disinformation on social media platforms.

The organisation said responsible broadcasting remains essential to strengthening public trust and supporting Nigeria’s democratic development.

Commendation for Security Agencies

On national security, BON commended the Nigerian Government for its efforts to restore peace across the country.

It also praised the military, police, Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies for their sacrifices and continued efforts to protect lives and property.

BON urged Nigerians to remain committed to the values of unity, peace and national development as the country marks 66 years of independence.
