Oyo State: PDP, Accord Members Defect To APC

Olubunmi Osoteku, Ibadan

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Ibadan North-East II Candidate, Hammed Ademola, and the Accord Party Aspirant, Adedapo Ojo, have led about 3000 members of the parties to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State, ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

The defectors were received by the state leadership of the APC, led by its Chairman and former Deputy Governor, Dr Moses Adeyemo, in Ibadan, over the weekend.

Adeyemo assured the new members of full integration into the party, pledging that none of them would be discriminated against or denied equal representation in its affairs.

He said the growing dissatisfaction with the administration of the APM in the state had heightened the desire among residents for a political change, expressing confidence that the APC was positioned to provide the desired alternative in 2027.

“APC remains the only party that can produce the required change in 2027. You have made the right decision. I am assuring you that you will not regret your action.”

The APC Governorship Candidate in the state, Sharafadeen Alli, promised that his administration would deliver good governance and address what he described as inadequacies across the various sectors of the state’s economy if elected governor in 2027.

Alli said his government would prioritise the revitalisation of critical sectors, particularly education and healthcare, while undertaking a comprehensive review of the state’s security architecture to tackle kidnapping, banditry and other criminal activities.

“There will also be a Civil Service reform with the training and retraining of workers. Also, our administration will revisit the issue of the Circular Road that has left thousands of people homeless. Local Government autonomy will be the topmost priority of our administration.”

In his address, Olamiposi Ojo, popularly known as Bibire Forum, who led other defectors from Accord, said their decision to join the APC was informed by the party’s commitment to internal democracy.

He also attributed their defection to the leadership qualities of President Bola Tinubu and what he described as the President’s transformative impact on the country.

“Our decision is based on the leadership quality of President Bola Tinubu and the way he has been able to transform the country.”

Similarly, Taoheed Ademola Lucky described the defection as a homecoming, expressing confidence in the APC’s political prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

He assured the party leadership that his numerous followers would mobilise support and work towards the success of the APC at both the state and federal levels in the forthcoming general elections.
