Kenya’s Health Cabinet Secretary, Aden Duale, says the country is not experiencing an Ebola outbreak, despite recording its first death from the disease.
Duale disclosed that health authorities were treating the case as an isolated incident while intensifying efforts to trace people who had contact with the victim.
He said authorities had identified 57 contacts, after adding two more to the initial 55.
According to him, 10 of the contacts have been traced and placed under quarantine at the National Police Service Hospital in Nairobi, where they are undergoing daily monitoring for symptoms.

Duale said efforts were being intensified to locate the remaining contacts.
He explained that health authorities had traced the patient’s journey from the Democratic Republic of Congo through Kampala, Uganda, to Nairobi, where the patient was admitted to hospital.
The minister’s comments comes a day after Kenya confirmed its first Ebola case involving a Kenyan citizen who had been living in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The patient died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi.
The Democratic Republic of Congo declared an Ebola outbreak in May after the disease was detected in an isolated area of eastern Congo.
