The Kebbi State Government says preparations have reached an advanced stage for the relocation of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Danko- Wasagu and Dirin-Daji to their respective communities.

Governor Nasir Idris gave the assurance during a visit to Dirin-Daji and Danko-Wasagu Local Government Areas of the state, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

Dr Idris described security as a top priority of his administration and urged residents to report suspicious persons and activities to the appropriate authorities to help tackle insecurity.

He stressed the need for communities to cooperate with security agencies, warning against any form of collaboration with criminals.

The governor expressed confidence that the Federal Government, in collaboration with the state government, would bring an end to insecurity in the area.

He said his administration had continued to provide security agencies, vigilante groups and forest guards with the necessary equipment and vehicles to enable them to discharge their duties effectively.

“As part of measures to support victims of insecurity, Governor Idris announced a donation of one hundred million naira to assist Internally Displaced Persons affected by insecurity in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area”.

He also announced a monthly allocation of ten million naira to support community-based internal security initiatives in Wasagu Chiefdom.

The governor further disclosed plans to establish a Forward Operating Base, FOB, to strengthen security operations, improve response time and prevent further attacks in Wasagu and neighbouring communities.

On infrastructure, Dr Idris pledged to look into the rehabilitation of the Danko-Wasagu township road and other road-related requests presented during the visit.

He said the proposed road rehabilitation would improve accessibility, facilitate security operations and boost economic activities in the area.

The governor also called on eligible voters in the state to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid and his own second-term ambition, saying this would help sustain the delivery of democratic dividends.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Internal Security, Alhaji Haliru Aliyu Wasagu, commended Governor Idris for prioritising security and providing logistical and operational support to security agencies across the state.

He recalled that insecurity had affected communities in the area for several years, forcing some farmers to abandon their farmlands and disrupting economic and social activities.

In their separate remarks, the Chief of Wasagu Chiefdom, Alhaji Muktar Musa, and the Chairman of Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, Hon. Hussaini Aliyu Bena, expressed appreciation to the governor for visiting the area and outlining additional measures to address the security challenges.
