The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has endorsed the Federal Government’s ongoing road infrastructure projects across Anambra, Enugu, Delta and Imo states, urging the Ministry of Works to sustain construction efforts and ensure timely completion to boost national connectivity, improve road safety and strengthen economic activities.

The association made the call after a road assessment tour led by its National Senate President, Ibeabuchi Moses Onyia, during which national executives, zonal and state officials, campus leaders and students inspected major federal road projects across the four states.

The projects inspected included the Eke/Obinagu Junction flyover along the Enugu–Abakaliki Road, the Enugu–Onitsha Dual Carriageway, the Asaba–Onitsha access road project to the Second Niger Bridge under Phase 2B, and the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway linking Anambra and Imo states.

The delegation assessed construction progress, engineering standards, the quality of materials and safety provisions at the project sites. It commended the engineers and contractors for their professionalism and the standards observed during the tour.

Speaking after the exercise, Onyia urged the Federal Ministry of Works to sustain the pace of construction and ensure that the projects were completed to the required specifications.

He said durable road infrastructure was essential to improving mobility, protecting road users and supporting economic activities, adding that timely delivery would help maximise the benefits of public investment.

On behalf of the NANS Senate and Nigerian students, Onyia announced a vote of confidence in the Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, citing his supervision of the projects and commitment to infrastructure delivery.

The association also expressed support for President Bola Tinubu’s infrastructure programme, noting that improved road networks could reduce travel time and vehicle operating costs, strengthen inter-state commerce and create economic opportunities for communities along the corridors.

NANS said the projects were particularly important to students who travel between states for academic, commercial and social activities, adding that safer and more accessible highways would ease transportation challenges for students, traders and other commuters.

The association noted that the Asaba–Onitsha access road project under Phase 2B was intended to improve connectivity between Delta and Anambra states and facilitate access to the Second Niger Bridge, strengthening transport links between the South-East and other parts of the country.

The delegation thanked the NANS officials and students who participated in the tour and urged students nationwide to continue monitoring public infrastructure projects and providing constructive feedback to relevant authorities.

It reaffirmed NANS’ commitment to engaging government institutions on issues affecting students and contributing to national development through civic participation and accountability.
