Botswana health official suspended for Covid violation
Botswana’s president has suspended the assistant minister for health for violation of Covid-19 guidelines.
Sethomo Lelatisitswe convened a tombstone unveiling ceremony breaking the rules banning any form of public gatherings.
He has now been suspended for one month starting on Wednesday.
The minister apologised and said the event date had been set a long time ago and couldn’t be postponed.
His family was unveiling their father’s tombstone as their mother took off the mourning dress as required in their culture.
Only cabinet meetings, parliament sittings and funerals are allowed in Botswana.
The government banned all other gatherings because of rising Covid-19 cases.
