Nigeria’s senior female cricket team will depart the country for Botswana on Monday ahead of the Women’s T20 World Cup qualifiers.

The 22-member contingent comprises 14 players and eight officials.

The Secretary of the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF), Taiwo Oriss, said the team was hopeful of a good outing.

“This is the second time Nigeria will be participating in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women’s World Cup qualifiers and we expect that the team wins a world cup ticket.

“The Under 19 male team, in 2019, secured the country’s first ever world cup ticket, and we are optimistic that the female team will replicate same feat in Bostwana.

“Meanwhile, the girls are in high spirit . They are excited about the opportunity and they are going with high hopes to make a difference,” Oriss said.

Nigeria is in group B alongside Namibia, Uganda, Sierra Leone and Cameroon.

Group A comprises host (Botswana), Eswatini (Swaziland), Mozambique, Rwanda, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.

Two teams are expected to qualify from the event scheduled to take place from September 7 to 20.
