Nigeria directs professionals of Information Technology to register with CPN

The Nigerian government has given a directive for Individuals and Corporate organisations in the Information Technology practices to register with Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN.
The Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu gave the directive in Abuja while inaugurating the 2021-2023 newly appointed Council Members of the Computer Professionals.
Fight against impostors
The Minister also said that “the Council has the support of the government in its fight against quacks, impostors and all irregularities in the IT industry.’’
According to Adamu, “the Nigerian Government of Nigeria is committed to making Nigeria a giant IT compliant economy.
“The task of nation building through Information Technology is an enormous one, but it is something we can do. We are all aware of what a dynamic and progressive policy in Information Technology has done for many countries around the world. With our determination, commitment and professionalism, we can attain and surpass their record.”
The Minister said; “The Federal Ministry of Education is conscious of your efforts at enforcing the Act that established you by making it mandatory for all individuals and corporate organisations that are practicing Information Technology in Nigeria to register with CPN. The global practice is for professionals to regulate their profession properly to ensure standards and best practice. The CPN has aligned with this vision through its various programmes and activities geared towards making the vision a reality.
“You are enjoined to partner with government in ensuring that we turn out new generations of youths that are properly equipped with IT knowledge and skills to position the country for global competitiveness.’’
The President of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN, Mr Kole Ajagun, said series of programmes have been embarked on to bring about improvement in Information Technology development in Nigeria.
Ajagun emphasised that the actualisation of Nigerian Youths potentials in Information Technology is being taken seriously.
He tasked members to rise up to addressing the major challenges created by the Covid-19 Pandemic, saying “the agency has substantial contributions to improve the sector.’’
CPN President said; “We have a substantial contribution to make and this contribution is to grow the penetration of ICT maximally so that it can impact positively on the economy and other aspects of our people’s lives.
The global economic meltdown brought about by the incidence and the persistence of the COVID 19 pandemic has provided a big challenge for us as professionals, and we need to rise up to it.’’
Ajagun expressed readiness of the CPN to work more with the Minister of Education and his management team to ensure that Information Technology Education is entrenched in the country.
Nigerian creative talents
He said it was time to use the Nigerian creative talents to create other sources of revenue for the government.
Ajagun who said its main office still operates from Lagos State solicited the assistance of the Minister in relocating and in the completion of the office building in Abuja.
The Minister of Education, Adamu was represented by the Minister of State for Education, Chuwkuemeka Nwajiuba at the inauguration, directed the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Education, Sonny Echono to write in request of an office building in Abuja for the CPN from the relevant government agency.
The Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria, CPN, is the Agency of Government established to control and regulate the Practice of Information Technology professionals in Nigeria.
