The House of Representatives has urged the executive arm of government to consolidate the gains recorded in the military operations against bandits in Zamfara and Katsina States by expanding the operation to cover all other affected States.

This was to prevent the movement of the bandits from one State to another.

The House also urged the government to set up a joint security task force to operate along the border areas between Katsina, Kaduna and Kano States.

This followed the unanimous adoption of a motion on the need to take urgent measures to stop attacks by bandits on villages and towns in parts of Kano State.

Presenting the motion, Haruna Dederi from Kano said part of the area is prone to attacks by bandits escaping the military onslaught in Katsina and Zamfara States where fleeing bandits passed through Kano state.

The lawmaker stated that “the Local Government shares border with Katsina and Kaduna States and that if urgent steps were not taken to stop the bandits, their activities will spread to other areas of Kano State, upsetting the relative peace enjoyed in the State.

Adopting the motion, the house directed the house committees on national security and intelligence, army and police affairs to ensure effective compliance.
