The Director-General of Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation, Dr. Ayub Rioba Chacha has called on African media to project the continent’s rich cultural heritage.
Dr. Chacha who made the call while speaking on Voice of Nigeria’s flagship programme “In the News”, explained that Pan-Africanism is the consciousness of African identity.
He advised media outfits in the continent to work in synergy by promoting the African true perspective rather than relying on international organizations to tell the African story.
“The greatest thing that can happen in Africa today is for Africa to unite, because otherwise if we don’t unite there is no way we will be able to face very strong forces, global forces that are out there to make sure that they undermine our dignity, undermine our survival,” he stated.
To showcase the continent’s rich diverse cultural heritage, Dr. Chacha canvassed for broadcast in local languages that are understood on the African continent which he noted will also promote the reach of broadcast on the African perspective to a larger audience.
He noted that Africa’s progress is tied to the promotion of the continent’s values that are embedded in her culture.
In line with promoting activities in the African continent through enriched media content, Voice of Nigeria and the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation signed an MOU.
Dr. Chacha explained that the collaboration through the signed MOU between the Voice of Nigeria and the Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation was in line with promoting African development and a strong determination for progress.
“Tanzania Broadcasting Corporation to associate itself with Voice of Nigeria is actually meant not only to tap in terms of exchange of content or staff, but we are planning to establish a media which will be online, that will go to the international audience, telling our own stories, from our own perspective.”
On the fight against COVID-19, Dr. Chacha said that African countries need to collaborate in the manufacturing of vaccines rather than depend on Western countries for vaccines.
He called on the wealthier African Countries to put together resources towards the manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines in Africa.
Dr. Ayub Rioba Chacha and his delegation are on a working visit to Nigeria.
