Abia State Speaker Loses Constituency to LP Candidate

The Labour Party Candidate, Mr Obi Aguocha has polled 48,199 votes to defeat the Speaker of Abia House of Assembly, Mr Chinedum Orji of PDP in Saturday’s election for Ikwuano/Umuahia North/Umuahia South Federal Constituency.

Orji scored 35,195 in a result announced on Monday by the Returning Officer, ProfessorUma Oke.

Orji is the son of former Governor, Theodore Orji.

Professor Oke said that Mr Ogbonnaya Obilor of the All Progressives Congress, APC had  4,042 votes, while Mr Ogbonna Abariukwu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA got 2,758 while Mr Obinna Nwosu of African Democratic Congress, ADC, scored 2386, and Mr Friday Chimaobi of Young Progressives Party, YPP polled 1013 votes.

Others, including Patience Okorie of New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, got 644 votes,  Mr Christian Ibekwe Christian of National Rescue Movement, NRM, got 68 votes whereas Mr Nnamdi Ogbuagu of All People’s Party, APP scored 347 votes.

Professor Oke told newsmen that they were awaiting the outcome of Osisioma Local Government Area polls to declare the results for Abia Central Senatorial District.

Umuahia North, Umuahia South, Ikwuano, Osisioma, Isiala Ngwa South and Isiala North are the six Local Government Areas in Abia Central Senatorial District.
